Carmel Van Der Hoeven is a true creative force. She enjoyed great success with her ceramic practice before returning to pick up her paint brushes again, taking us deep into the garden, walking familiar NZ streets and on this occasion... the home.
Based in rural Waikato with her family, Carmel exhibits nationally and has grown an extremely loyal following. We have been lucky enough to share her garden-scapes within a previous Studio Home exhibition, and I couldn't hold back adding one of her iconic "state house" paintings to my own collection.
I am thrilled to present this original acrylic painting; "Still" as part of our "The Moon, The Sea... and Me" rolling exhibition May - Oct. 2020. This beautiful artwork has been framed in house atStudio Home Framingand available online or to be viewed by appointment in Christchurch.
"Still" offers a very relatable moment for all of us. It feels gentle, reflective and quiet in a time where there seems to be such turmoil. Inspired by the series of bath scenes painted by French artist; Pierre Bonnard in the early 1900's, Carmel has challenged herself to play with perspective and colour, guided by his techniques.
